The Labour Mafia in Kerala!!

One thing which impedes the development and growth of Kerala is the labour mafia which has spread its tentacles all over the state. The situation is so pathetic that even the government is helpless to what to do.Let me explain to you what is meant by labour mafia.Say you are shifting furniture to your newly constructed house. You feel you can manage it yourself or with the help of your servant or your friend. But you cant do that in Kerala. You will have to pay the people sitting in the junction dressed in blue shirts and lungis to unload as only they can unload the goods. If you dont want to take their help and feel that you can do that yourself, you will still have to pay them for them not to interfere. This may sound ridiculous but this is what the situation actually is. There is another incident where a guy wanted to construct a house in some remote place but couldnt find any work men to lay the foundation. So he brings people from TN as they are ready to work anywhere to lay the foundation. You must remember that this is one of the most difficult tasks. The day after the foundation is built,he finds red flags all over the place and posters asking to employ people from Kerala and not outsiders to work.Isnt it our constitutional right to work where we want to? Recently when the govt. wanted to pass a bill reducing the authority of this extremist force it faced lots of opposition. The govt. also faces lots of opposition from the opposition lead by the communist parties. But remember it were the communist parties which opposed computerisation of banks and railways saying lakhs of people would become unemployed. The ball is in our court. Its up to us to decide whats good for us and what is not.

Daylight Robbery!!!

A month back i had to go to the hospital to get my thyroid examined as i was diagnosed with a mild form of goitre.I underwent 3 tests for 450 Rs in the hospital. The hospital was one of the best and was located near Thilai Nagar in Tennur Road in Trichy. When i went home this hols i wanted to conduct all the tests again. When i called one of the labs(this one advertised itself as the world's largest thyroid testing facility) in my place ie Kochi they said all the 3 tests together would cost only 200 Rs.Hearing this i was shocked. This was a hospital which was not known not to charge exhorbitantly and they had cheated me of 250 Rs. The Doc who recommended these tests was an ENT.And one more interesting incident that took plase that day was when i explained him my problem, he examined my ears and without giving me time to react tried to take out the ear wax.Any sensible person knows that wax cant come out one fine day without softening it.So naturally this guy was able to clear my ears of very little wax and prescribes me a liquid for softening it and caharges me 65 Rs for his effort + another 60 as his consultation fee.The next time i go with the medical reports and applying the liquid he takes the rest of the wax and caharges me another 40 for taking the wax out + again 60 as consultation fee. The same ear wax removal in Kochi would have cost only 50 Rs.So i had to pay 250+55 Rs extra in this hospital. One thing which i found absurd in Tamil Nadu as a whole was that the doctors here charged everytime you visited them be it one day after the first visit or be it one week.In my case i has mentioned it was 60 Rs.But in Kochi,You had to pay only 50 Rs and you can visit the Doctor any number of times for the next 30 days without paying a single Rupee as consultation Fees.I am serious guys.People in Tamil Nadu are being taken for a ride. Also Auto fares in Tamil Nadu are ridiculously high. The practical minimum fare here is 15 Rs but if you are lucky enough you pay only10 Rs.But in Kochi the minimum fare is only 8 Rs. ie almost half of what is charged here. And the fares are a lot cheaper over there. The only things i find costly there in Kerala there are vegetables and clothes which we can understand as they are brought mainly from Tamil Nadu. Also the labour mafia is strong there.About that i will write in my next article. For any clarifications mail me at getmadhavan@yahoo.co.in.

My first Blog and about myself

Hi am Madhavan. Not that filmi guy but much better.Seeing this you might feel am a guy with lots of ego but am not.At least thats what i beleive.I am currently doing my third year engineering in NIT Trichy in Electrical and Electronics engineering. But i wonder how many people know about Trichy outside Tamil Nadu.I did my schooling in Kerala,Kochi to be precise. One thing that caught my attention after spending two years of my life here is how mesmerised my class mates are of the scenic beauty of Kerala and the 'mallu gals' (as they call the malayali girls). But what i feel is that this is due to too much exageration by tamil films like Autograph and others. One guy bothered to ask me after seeing the movie whether people in Kerala commute to schools, colleges and places of work by boats and whether Malayali girls can be that easily wooed by boys from other states especially.Imagine my plight! Now about blogging. After going through blogs like Kiruba's and many others ,I was wondering whether to write one myself. This is when i got the inspiration from my sis and this is what the result is.The popularity of blogs is amazing. But it just isnt about creating one but making it interesting so that people keep coming again. So friends this my first blog and please visit my blogs whenever you have time.
